Overview

In October 2021, the new Golf 8 GTI was launched in South Africa to a mass fanfare.

Our task?

While GTI’s were set to tour the country at live events in Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg, we took up the challenge of conceptualising, designing and developing an innovative mobile gaming app.

Approach

We created the concept of #GTI8OnTour, a gaming app that allowed people to race the new Golf GTI through the virtual city streets of SA to claim a ticket to the #GTI8OnTour live launch events that toured the country.

By developing a native app for Android and iOS, we custom developed VW SA’s very first mobile driving game, featuring the best parts of the GTI 8. The app drove players to download an application from their relevant app stores, register and get to playing.

Results

#GTI8OnTour connected all players across South Africa, housing its very own leader board per city with the fastest racing times ranking. Not only were players given the enjoyment of racing at its finest but were complimented with a ticket to the launch event of the GTI 8 within their registered city.
